What is the difference between adhan and iqamah?

Adhan times are calculated from your coordinates — the same for everyone in the area. Iqamah is when a specific mosque actually holds the jama‘ah, which only the people who pray there know. NamazNearby labels every time with which one it is, and never passes a calculation off as a jama‘ah.

Where do the mosques come from?

A large one-time import of open map data seeded the database, and place search fills gaps in areas it did not cover. Anything still missing gets added by users, with the same map-pin flow the app ships to everyone.

Accepted Answer

No — not to browse, not to bookmark, and not to contribute. Adding a mosque or its iqamah times works without a sign-up wall.

How does the catch-up finder decide what I can reach?

Accepted Answer

It takes each nearby mosque's own iqamah time for the prayer in question, compares it to the clock, and weighs that against how long it takes you to get there at walking or driving speed. Mosques you can make are listed first.

Can I get reminded before my mosque's jama‘ah?

Yes. Tap the bell on a bookmarked mosque and you get a local notification before that mosque's iqamah — one mosque at a time, on purpose.
